  1. THE EVENT TO GROW YOUR • CONSTRUCTION BUSINESS • IN NIGERIA • Welcome to the CPD certifiedprogramme • 9 - 11 September 2019

  2. Presentation Title • HAS YOUR BADGE BEEN SCANNED? Attendance certificates are available only to attendees who have been scanned within the first 30 minutes of this session. Head over to the scanner at the entrance of this workshop theatre if your badge was not scanned. Certificates will be available for collection in two hours and can be collected at the cpd certificate collection point. Speak to a member of the staff for more information

  3. Presentation Title SPEAKERS: AWOJOBI TOBI OLAPITE BIM SPECIALIST 1, ARBICO PLC TOPIC: • BIM – A technical revolution in digital construction • INTRODUCTION TO BIM • CHALLENGES BIM POSES TO SOLVE • BIM ADOPTION AND IMPLEMENTATION FOR CONSTRUCTION PROFESSIONALS TIME: 14:00– 14:45

  4. Presentation Title Presentation Title • TOPIC INTRODUCTION TO BIM TEXT BRIEF HISTORY: The first documented use of the term ‘’Building Information Model’’ appeared in a paper by G.A Van Nederveen and F.Tolman in the December 1992 Automation in Construction. (https://www.sciencedirect.com/journal/automation-in-construction/vol/1/issue/3)

  5. Presentation Title Presentation Title • TOPIC INTRODUCTION TO BIM TEXT G.A Van Nederveen Assistant Professor Integrated Design and Information Systems, Delft University of Technology

  6. Presentation Title Presentation Title • TOPIC INTRODUCTION TO BIM DEFINITION: BIM is the process of delivering and operating built assets using well-structured digital information that all the necessary parties have access to. The BIM process requires all parties to collaborate and share the information they create in a mutually accessible online space known as a common data environment or CDE. This way, everyone who needs to access the information can. That collection of data is known as an 'information model'. Information models can be used to inform all stages of a built asset's lifecycle; from inception right through to operation and renewal.  (B1M, 2013). TEXT

  7. Presentation Title Presentation Title • TOPIC BIM – A technical revolution in digital construction Building Information Modeling TEXT BIM Object (ex: Beam) Building Information Model A Building Information Model is ... the output of the business processresulting in a digital prototype, a virtual computer model of a projectwhichholdsselectedstructured data about the asset (design, quantity, physical and thermal properties, time, cost, as-built, etc).

  8. Presentation Title Presentation Title • TOPIC BIM STAGES SIMPLIFIED TEXT STAGE 3 STAGE 2 STAGE 1 (BIM ACCORDING TO 1SO 19650; 1)

  9. Presentation Title Presentation Title BIM DIMENSIONS EXPLAINED • TOPIC TEXT 2D visualisation of the 3D on a plan 6D + Sustainability 3D Basic geometrical representation 7D + Facility management applications. 4D + Scheduling 5D + Estimating XD The nextones : Comfort ? Security ?

  10. Presentation Title Presentation Title • TOPIC POSITIVITY IN BIM TEXT “CAD helps people to draw. BIM helps people to construct.” (Richard Saxon, Ecobuild, February 2009) “BIM is not CAD. BIM wasnevermeant to be CAD. CAD is a replacement for pen and paper, a documentation tool. By comparison, BIM programs are design applications in which the documentation flows from and is a derivative of the process, fromschematic design to construction to facility management.” (Pete Zyskowski, Cadalyst) “Drawingis Dead – Long Live Modelling” (CPIC)

  11. Presentation Title Presentation Title • TOPIC BIM – Challenges that can be solved. TEXT A More Sustainable Model of Building Procurement • Address Economic & Environmental Issues in Construction • Waste in Construction • Buildings Cost Too Much to Build • Buildings Cost Too Much to Operate • Buildings responsible for 50% of CO2 Emissions • 30% of the cost of construction is wasted in the field due to: • coordination errors • wasted material • labour inefficiencies • other problems in the current construction approach (Report, “The Economist”, January 13, 2000)

  12. Presentation Title Presentation Title • TOPIC Challenge 2 : Owners TEXT Using BIM, owners can: • Improve building quality • Significantly reduce building lifecycle costs • Better understand design projects from beginning to end • Optimize operational efficiencies • Increase occupancy and use rates Quality

  13. Presentation Title Presentation Title • TOPIC The Four Winds of Building Information Modelling. TEXT Uses 3D models to capture, explore, and maintain consistent and coordinated planning, design, construction, and operational data 1 Uses and shares the same consistent data whether you’re at your desk or in the field Provides greater project insight for cost, schedule, and constructability 4 2 Enables prompt response to change with processes that are smarter and faster 3 Source: Autodesk

  14. Presentation Title Presentation Title • TOPIC Advantages TEXT • Reuse building models and data to better manage facility operations • Analyze data-rich models to optimize resources and reduce waste and lower lifetime maintenance and operation costs • Use intelligent 3D models to help manage space and perform spatial validation for tenant chargebacks

  15. Presentation Title Presentation Title • TOPIC Case Studies of Adoption. TEXT • Shanghai Tower Construction & Development Co. Ltd. used BIM not only to design and build, but also to inform operations of their super high-rise tower. STC&D plans to use BIM for emergency and property management going forward. • The Government Services Administration (GSA) is creating a database of its 3D models to inform O&M and future projects. Additional software leveraging the 3D models will use its data for security, updates, analysis, and reporting.

  16. Presentation Title Presentation Title • TOPIC FAQ TEXT • Where do I begin with BIM? • Does BIM promise enough ROI? • Will BIM take our jobs away? • What BIM Tools are available? • How can BIM be adopted in my organization?

  17. THANK YOU! • IF YOUR BADGE WAS SCANNED IN THE FIRST 30 MINUTES OF THE SESSION, YOUR CERTIFICATE WILL BE READY AT • THE CPD COLLECTION POINT IN TWO HOURS TIME
