  4. Aims and Objectives. • to connect with others experiencing similar difficulties. • to learn to express their feelings about themselves appropriately in a trusting environment. • to share their thoughts, feelings and concerns about difficulties they are experiencing.

  5. Year 1 Cohort – Sept 2006 • the children were feeling isolated at school. • some of the group were concerned about academic failure. • the children were comparing themselves unfavourably with their peers. • all of the group were worried about moving up to high school.

  6. Year 1 Cohort - Outcome • One child was referred to the local NSPCC for additional support. • Three main areas were identified: Pupils felt that attending SAP had enabled them to: Form friendships, Learn new skills, Learn to trust others. • A request was made for four children to have supportive group work at secondary school.

  7. Feedback from Children How to share my feelings with others. It is nice to share your problems with others. I’m happy because I was able to share my feelings in group. I learned how to talk to people. I feel that I am a brave person. I know that people like me just the way I am. I know that I am a kind person. You learn more about other people.

  8. Maintaining the Project • Yearly SAP groups are run during the spring term. • Adaptation of programme for younger children with SAP Coordinator –Eileen Thomas. • Use of different themed programmes to cater for specific issues.
