  1. Standard Grade Technological Studies Pneumatic components: The T-piece

  2. The T-piece • A T-piece can be used to divide or split the airflow. • This can be used to operate two cylinders from a single valve.

  3. The T-piece • The T-piece can be thought of as a mini manifold. • On circuit diagrams the T-piece is represented by a dot.

  4. Assignment 4 1. A delivery lorry uses a pneumatic braking system. The brakes operate when the driver presses the foot brake. Two single-acting cylinders should outstroke at the same time activating the brakes.

  5. Assignment 4 • Build and test the circuit shown (use a push button to simulate the foot brake). • Describe how the system operates. • Explain the purpose of the T-piece.

  6. Assignment 4 2. Four single acting cylinders are used to clamp large nameplates to a table to allow them to be engraved. All four cylinders must operate at the same time.

  7. Assignment 4 • Design a pneumatic system to solve the clamping problem. • Using the Pneumatics kit, build and test your solution. • Describe how your system operates. • Explain your choice of actuator
