Three Guiding Questions1. What do we see about Jesus?2. Why does this matter?3. How do we now live?
What Do We See About Jesus, the glorious Word?Jesus is God (1:1-2, 18).Jesus is life (1:3-4).Jesus shines in the darkness (1:5-8).Jesus is the genuine and ultimate hope for humanity (1:9-13).Jesus became flesh and dwelt among us (1:14-15).Jesus empowers and guides His followers (1:16-17).Jesus reveals the Father’s nature (1:18).
The Word became flesh and dwelt among us. And we beheld His glory, the glory of the One and Only from the Father, full of grace and truth. John 1:14 A Most Important Verse
What do we see about Jesus?Jesus—the glorious Word who existed with God from before the beginning, and who is Himself God—became flesh and dwelt among us.
The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. This statement is one of the most significant and memorable ever penned. Its implications are limitless. It has provided the church over the centuries with a key to understanding the mystery of Jesus Christ . . . No words can do justice to the height and depth of truth expressed here. Its enormity overwhelms the mind.Bruce Milne
Why does this matter?Jesus, the glorious Word, enters our story:He shows us our desperate need for salvation. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it (5).The world did not know Him (10).The ones closest to Him did not receive Him (11).He invites us to trust Him only. But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, even to those who believe in His name, who were born not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God (12, 13).
The incarnation of Christ silences the fraudulent voices of the world whose truth claims are inimical to God.Gary M. Burge
How do we now live?We enter His story:We believe in Jesus (12, 16).We bear witness to Jesus (6, 7, 8, 15).We behold the glory of Jesus (14).
