  3. Our mission: To promote mental health and to improve the care and treatment of persons with mental illness through advocacy, education and service

  5. Live Your Life Well A web-based, public education campaignhelping people take positive action toward improving their mental health and well-being

  6. Live Your Life Well • Consists of ten tools promoting resiliency • Provides practical, easy-to-use suggestions on maintaining and improving mental wellness • Offers helpful resources and information to strengthen the mental health safety-net

  7. Live Your Life Well A grant from the Missouri Foundation for Health afforded MHA to develop a pilot on-the-ground program to impact two communities: African Americans and lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender (LGBT) individuals.

  8. Live Your Life Well Gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, racial and ethnic backgrounds are strong determinants whether individuals will seek help, types of help they seek, coping styles, social supports and how much stigma they attach to mental health.

  9. Live Your Life Well MHA met with a variety of local and out-state community partners to advise us on developing culturally sensitive seminars and materials along with expanding our helpline with culturally competent mental health providers.

  13. Live Your Life Well Community Outreach Committees: • Evaluated pilot seminars • Assembled focus groups to test seminars • Connected MHA with host organizations • Identified mental health service providers • Identified out-state sites for webinars/seminars

  14. Live Your Life Well The seminars are based on a body of scientific evidence in behavioral and medical research. Simply stated, it’s evidenced-based common sense.

  29. Live Your Life Well Stress can be a result of emotional and psychological pain. It may manifest in physical symptoms, sometimes as problems in work or love relationships, disturbances in mood and self-esteem, or troubling personality traits.

  30. Live Your Life Well In some cases, the toll of stress cannot be resolved through the advice of friends and family or reading self-help books. Our most determined efforts often fail to provide the necessary relief.
