Foundation Decision Filter • Lack of dentists to serve medicaid patients • Almost year-long wait for dental care • Dental & health professional shortage (in rural • communities) • PA received a “F” for only employing two of eight • policy solutions to ensure dental health and access to • care for children • The myriad of stories

  5. Foundation Recognition • Dental and medical are interconnected • FQHCs have the ability to affect both • Safety net providers through capacity • building can serve more people • FQHCs train medical providers to look • out for dental issues

Issued two RFPs: • Working Together: Improving Access to Oral Health & Dental Care for Underserved Populations • Challenge grants • Dental equipment $1.8M (20) • Regional collaboration • Reinvesting in Oral Health & Dental Care of Our Communities • Expanded function dental hygienist • Individuals with special needs $816k (5) • Regional collaboration to support expansion services

  7. Foundation Results • Reduce the wait list • Many have a dental home & routine care • Reduced barriers • Coordinate care better • Reduced no show rate • People are starting to see the connection & value of • medical and dental • Social determinants model is important
