  1. Why do Cardinals Have Red Feathers? By: Derek, Chris, and Paul

  2. A long time their lived a male Cardinal named Jeff.

  3. Jeff the cardinal was sad because he was brown and blended into everything!

  4. Jeff was also sad because all the boys cardinals looked the same as the girl Cardinals. Sometimes, people thought he was a girl cardinal!

  5. So, one day when he was flying into the forest their were some kids playing With paint guns.

  6. One of the kids yelled out, hey look there’s a bird and shot Jeff with the paint gun!

  7. Jeff the cardinal fell to the ground from the splatter! When he got up he looked into the Stream of water and saw his reflection. He was the most beautiful color of Red!

  8. And that is why male cardinals are bright red, and female cardinals are brown.
