  2. Capital City • Providence is the capital and the most populous city in Rhode Island, and one of the first cities established in the United States.[3] Located in Providence County, it is the estimated second or third largest citya[›] in the New England region.

  3. State Motto • HopeRhode Island's state motto was itadopted as an element of the state coat of arms or "Arms of the state". The motto is found on the state's coat of arms, the seal and flag. Adopted in 1875.

Rhode Island nickname • Rhode Island's official nickname is "The Ocean State," a reference to the state's geography, since Rhode Island has several large bays and inlets that amount to about 30% of its total area. Its land area is 1,045 square miles (2706 km2), but its total area is significantly larger (in the United States, all seawater and ocean floors that are less than 12 nautical miles from land belong to the Federal Government).

State Flag • The Flag of State of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations is white and consists of a gold anchor in the center (a symbol for hope) surrounded by thirteen gold stars (for the original 13 colonies and Rhode Island's status as the 13th state to ratify the Constitution). A blue ribbon below the anchor bears the state's motto in gold: "HOPE." The flag is frequently depicted with golden fringe around the edges of the flag.

There he earned his degree in International Relations. After teaching high school math, he moved to Jamaica. A couple years alter he returned to Rhode Island and took a job at Cookson Group where he would become the CEO of Cookson America.

  8. Universities • The state's three public institutions are administered by the Rhode Island Board of Governors for Higher Education. The state operates two public universities, the University of Rhode Island and Rhode Island College, as well as the Community College of Rhode Island, which offers degrees at six locations. The Naval War College, operated by the federal United States Navy, is located in Newport.
