  8. IAEA Technical Cooperation Projects IRQ/9/008: Developing Regulations to License and Control the Use of Radioactive Sources and Materials. Regulatory Infrastructure Development Project (RIDP) IRQ/0/006:Establishing a Quality Assurance and Quality Control Programme for Gamma Ray Spectrometry in the Nuclear Analytical Laboratory at the Ministry of Environment. Proposed Project for 2016 – 2017: Strengthening of Iraqi Regulatory Infrastructure and Development of General Radiation Safety Regulations in Line with the IAEA Safety Standards Ministry of Environment, Radiation Protection Centre

Iraq / EC INSC Projects Feedback • The regulatory safety parameters took in account in the evaluation of decommissioning plans and safety reports for design, built, operation and decommissioning of the nuclear facilities. • Developing new requirements for waste storage and update the RW managements and disposal regulations. • New procedures used by the RPC to license the commissioning, operation and decommissioning. • Development of national safety evaluation requirements for RW and Decommissioning. • Development of RPC regulatory functions and radiation protection activities in the radiological and nuclear emergency. • Development and implementing of radiological and nuclear emergency scenarios. Iraq / EC INSC Projects Lessons Learned • A process of dialogue to ensuring greater communication within the programme. • The linking of the project selection process to well defined national development objectives and priorities to ensure the relevance of the support and the sustainability and impact of technical cooperation activities. • Great emphasis on indigenous competencies and capabilities in order to optimize the role and participation in the programme. • Opportunities to contribute to the global development and build partnerships between the national and regional institutions and the international organizations. EC INSC Projects (IRAQ NTP) future Cooperation Needs NOT in the T&T Catalogue Developing Integrated Management Systems and Safety Management Principles in the Implementation of the Regulatory Function; Development of documented management system according to IAEA standard. Development and implementation of Inspection procedures in according with ISO 17020. Development of quality management system according to ISO 9001, and 14001 Ministry of Environment, Radiation Protection Centre
