History
  • Research shows hypertension has been a problem since the early Egyptian empires.
  • The blood pressure cuff was invented in 1896, but it wasn't until the 1950s that we became aware of the importance of high blood pressure.

Symptoms
  • Symptoms include:
  • Head ache
  • Dizziness
  • Blurred vision
  • Chest pain
  • Nausea
  • Vomiting
treatment management
Treatment/management

Ways to reduce blood pressure:

  • Limit sodium intake
  • Become physically active
  • Take medications
  • Weight loss
  • Reduce psychological stress

Management for short term:
  • Get at least 30 minutes of exercise a day.
  • Eat foods with little sodium.

  • The person will start to feel better and healthier.
  • The family will be more aware of hypertension.
long term management
Long Term Management
  • The person can change their eating habits.
  • They can also increase the amount of exercise they get.
