  3. I met Tommy when he was 25 and I was 24. One of the best parts of the show was when they did "Love Potion # 9" and Donald would step up as appropriate and say "She took a drink." The reaction of the females in the place - you would think Elvis had just lowered the boom! -Tyson Laney

  4. The very first night I came to Chapel Hill from Atlanta for graduate school, in August, 1973, I wandered in to the old Cat's Cradle, then on Rosemary Street. The Bluegrass Experience with Tommy, Snuffy, Fiddlin' Al McCanless, & Charles Lee were playing that Thursday night. It was a fantastic evening of energetic, exciting music… and I knew I had come home. – Writer, Susan Ketchin

  6. Snuffy's deal was for Charles Lee, Leroy, or someone to grab the bass in the middle of a song and Snuffy would do a somersault to bring the house down – Snuffy always passes the bass test! Snuffy's "Salty Dog" Paul Beane's Rawhide. Donald's disposition and banjo skill and Al's ability to fiddle, most often closing the show with the Orange Blossom Special – Those were the day's! - Tyson Laney

  8. Leroy is a master of the human voice. Leroy and Charles Lee had the voices people wanted to hear! They used to rant at Tommy until he would put the guitar behind his head. He could note and rift it just as well one place as the other....(he was such a showoff as a child). I could never understand how someone could play like tommy edwards! – Tyson Laney
