  • 1 Then He went out from there and came to His own country, and His disciples followed Him. 2 And when the Sabbath had come, He began to teach in the synagogue.

  • And many hearing Him were astonished, saying, “Where did this Man get these things? And what wisdom is this which is given to Him, that such mighty works are performed by His hands!

  • 3 Is this not the carpenter, the Son of Mary, and brother of James, Joses, Judas, and Simon? And are not His sisters here with us?” So they were offended at Him.
  • 4 Jesus said to them, “A prophet is not without honor except in his own town, among his relatives and in his own home.”

  • Why were they offended?
    • From a human point of view He is no one special.
    • Their own sin (jealously) blinded them
familiarity breeds contempt
Familiarity breeds Contempt
  • Don’t be surprised if members of your own family is offended by your faith.
  • There are no neutral heart responses to the gospel:2 Cor 2:14-16
    • we are to God the fragrance of Christ among those who are being saved OR
    • The aroma of death among those who are perishing
  • Christ’s family acknowledged the miracles but not the source of the miracles

  • God has chose the weak to shame the mighty (1 Cor 1:27-29)

  • 5 He could not do any miracles there, except lay his hands on a few sick people and heal them. 6 He was amazed at their lack of faith.

  • Keep Believing
  • Miracles don’t lead to faith,faith leads to miracles.
