5-Minute Warm-Up OBJECTIVE: Describe the types of forces and their effect upon objects of varying mass. Consider the concept of inertia to describe the advantage of both more massive and less massive football players.
Forces & Inertia • The more inertia (mass) an object has, the more resistant it is to changes in its motion. • Therefore, the more inertia an object has, more force is required to change its motion. • Force is a push or a pull on an object. • The force needed to change motion is proportional to inertia.
Forces & Inertia Two Types of Forces • Contact Forces • Long-Range Forces
