  1. Key Points You Must Take Care Before Purchasing a Trolling Motor Battery A good trolling motor battery can make a difference in your boat’s performance and reliability, especially when you’re spending hours on the water. You have to ensure that it has enough power to last throughout the day to avoid problems. As you explore the options, you’re likely to come across conventional variants like lead-acid and AGM, and newer ones like the lithium trolling motor battery. But which battery is best for your trolling motor? Here are some key points to consider to help make an informed buying decision: Type For years, AGM and lead-acid wet-cell batteries have been the preferred deep-cycle 12-volt batteries for trolling motors. Deep-cycle means that they’re designed to discharge small amounts of current over an extended period while allowing for frequent discharging. AGM and lead-acid may still be popular choices, but lithium trolling motor batteries continue to catch on because they’re extremely lightweight, offer more power, and possess a significantly longer lifespan. Depth of Discharge (DoD) Depth of discharge means that you have more full power no matter the level of charge. Conventional batteries typically lose capacity and power when their charge depletes. Lithium batteries have a higher DoD than standard battery types and can handle deeper discharges. Size Lithium batteries are lightweight with a reduced footprint. So, they take up less space and won’t weigh down your boat. You could purchase a 24v LiFePO4 (lithium iron phosphate) battery in a similar size as a 12v group 27 deep cycle battery. Amperage hour rating Amperage hour rating is like a car’s gas tank. Batteries with a 115-amp hour rating should last longer than one with just 100 amp-hours. For trolling motors, consider a battery with at least a 100- amperage hour rating, Deep cycle 12v lithium trolling motor batteries will have more power than lead- acid or AGM batteries rated at 12v 180AH and up to 12v 200AH and similar. Safety features

  2. Ensure the battery is built under UN38.3 safety standards and ISO 9001 standards. LiFePO4 is a good option for lithium trolling motor batteries as it’s a non-explosive and safe type of lithium. The battery has a built-in battery management system to protect itself from issues like short-circuiting and overcharging. It also ensures that the battery is safe to charge.
