  21. Part III Chapter 3 – Pg 125 Atmosphere:Time slowing down and menacing Evidence/Quotes from last paragraph of chapter: • ‘I pedalled even more slowly’ • ‘It was barely moving now’ • ‘made a final tremor and came to a complete standstill’ • ‘hatred smothering in my eyes’ • ‘chisel, cutting into a ghastly prehistoric rock face’ • ‘releasing little puffs of greasy yellow dust’ • Analysis: • All the descriptions in the start of the last paragraph involves a description related to the idea of deceleration. I.e. Slowly, barely moving, etc. • The deceleration finally comes to an halt and even makes it feel like time itself has stopped • The writer used certain words or phrases to deliberately express the menacing scene. For example, hatred smothering, ghastly prehistoric, puffs of greasy yellow dust, etc. Most readers would naturally link these words (hatred, ghastly) with other words like revenge. • Also, it starts to relate the scene with dangerous environments again making it cohesive with the start of the chapter.
