  2. CHOOSING COURSES • Do your RESEARCH! • Make realistic choices • Consult with parents/guardians, teachers and guidance counsellor • Be sure to consider courses: • required for graduation • required for admission to Post Secondary programs and/or • that will support your career plans

  3. CREDIT HISTORY/OSSD DIPLOMA REQUIREMENTS • Complete Community Service and submit • Literacy Test requirement • Check your credit history /requirements 16 credits by June

  4. LEARN ABOUT COURSES • Read “Student Friendly” course descriptions on the DSSS website OR on myBlueprint • Talk to the teachers in specific subject areas. • Speak with your Guidance Counsellor.

It is also possible to move from MCF 3M0 to MCR 3UO in some cases. Consultation required.

  13. TIMETABLE CHANGES? Impossible or difficult to change courses once you start school. • Timetable is built based on student choices. • A change disrupts teachers and their classes. Change of mind about optional courses WILL NOT be considered! Be certain about courses you are choosing!

You may be eligible for a 2 week make up course in Summer School • Want to improve your understanding of a course you passed? 4 week Summer School course • Summer co-op is a great option to earn 2 credits in the summer! • Summer school information – will be available earlier this year compared to previous years! BE sure to check Guidance starting in FEBRUARY. STUDENT RESPONSIBILITY!!

  22. Specialist High Skills Major (SHSM) Sports R.I.S.E. This program is for students interested in post secondary studies or a career area related to sports.

  23. SHSM Sports (R.I.S.E.) This program has specific criteria. 1. Credit/Course information: • COP 2X: 2 Credits Co-op in a sport related field • 4 credits in a physical education or sports focused courses • ‘Package’ of courses must be completed in grades 11 and 12 courses Including the following recommended courses: • PLF 4MH- Grade 11 students • PPL 4OH- Grade 12 students

Specialist High Skills Major (SHSM): Sports continued • Experiential learning (job shadowing, guest speakers, Raptors/Argos career forum) • Reach ahead experiences (post secondary field trips to kinesiology labs, post secondary tours) • Certifications (first aid, CPR, WHMIS, sports injury taping and wrapping, personal training)

  25. SHSM Sports Program Application Application forms available today & return to PE Department by: Friday, December 23rd! Results of your application will be communicated to successful applicants by January 12th.
