  5. HOSA also provides opportunities for: • Leadership development. • Personal achievement. • Community service. • Connections with the health care community.

  6. What is HOSA? • HOSA is a scholastic student organization. • It’s like a cross between student council, the honor society, and an athletic team --- and it’s all about preparing yourself for a future health career.

  7. Your HOSA chapter is one of thousands of HOSA chapters across the United States.

  8. HOSA chapters promote career opportunities in health care by providing YOU with opportunities for: • Fun • Learning • Achievement

  9. Active participation in your HOSA chapter can make you a better student today - - and a better-prepared healthcare professional tomorrow.

  10. What is a HOSA Chapter? • Student members (That’s you!) • Chapter advisor (Your teacher) • Alumni members (Former members) • Professional members (Who support the HOSA chapter)

  11. How do I join? • Pay local, state and national affiliation fees. • Your advisor will list your name on the chapter affiliation form. • Membership is for the entire school year and following summer.

  12. Who runs the HOSA chapter? • Led by elected chapter officers • Chapter members recommend activities • Supported by the chapter advisor

  13. What is the value of HOSA? • The value is in the learning and sense of achievement HOSA members gain from chapter activities. • The value of HOSA is in the minds and hearts of HOSA members who are better prepared to succeed in their chosen profession.

  14. What do HOSA chapters do? • Lots of things! • Community service • Leadership development • Networking with the health community • And so much more!

  17. There are 44 HOSA National Competitive Events – all designed to further your ability to achieve in the Health Science classroom and in your future career.

  18. How do I get involved in HOSA competitive events? • Begin by selecting an event. • Some members pick something they are good at. • Others pick something they would like to become good at.

  25. The competitive events program begins in the classroom, where students are introduced to health science knowledge and skills.

  26. HOSA members who decide to compete will study and practice outside the classroom to perfect their skills.

  27. In the spring, HOSA members can compete in regional, or state leadership conferences.

  28. State winners are eligible to compete in National competition.

  29. The HOSA National Leadership Conference is held each June. • 2005 – Nashville, Tennessee • 2006 – Anaheim, California • 2007 – Orlando, Florida • 2008 – Dallas, Texas

  30. National Conference opportunities include: • General sessions, • Leadership workshops, • Educational symposiums and exhibits, • Competitive events, AND • Meeting HOSA members from across the United States and Puerto Rico.
