What do I do? • Style: Japanese cartoon widely known as “manga”. • Create my own characters. • Write my stories.
It started… • When neighbors wanted to have an art contest. • Between me and two other girls. • I drew a picture of Olive Oyl from Popeye with her dress pinned. • The other girls drew Sailor Moon characters. • Was not cool.
After all that mess • I practiced on my own. • I wanted to be better than those girls. • Began drawing as a hobby instead of having a hidden agenda (like revenge). • Thought I was the bomb at drawing.
It wasn’t easy. • Some drawings took days; others took hours. • I wasn’t ‘taught’ how to draw. I winged everything. • Researched numerous times, and practiced even more.
Started to get serious • Mangaka (漫画家)– A Japanese term for someone who draws comics or manga for a living. • Also considered being a writer. • Found digital art through DeviantArt. • Reputation of manga in the art world. • Painful discovery of programming.
But how do I do it? • Whenever I draw, I always have music on. • This song is called Light Dance by Akira Kosemura. • Here’s a step by step just to show that it isn’t so hard. • Or is it? • I hate coloring.
