  3. “Sweet Hour Of Prayer” Sweet hour of prayer! Sweet hour of prayer that calls me from a world of care, And bids me at my Father’s throne make all my wants and wishes known. In seasons of distress and grief, my soul has often found relief And oft escaped the tempter’s snare by thy return, sweet hour of prayer!

  4. “Sweet Hour Of Prayer” Sweet hour of prayer! sweet hour of prayer Thy wings shall my petition bear To Him whose truth and faithfulness engage the waiting soul to bless. And since He bids me seek His face believe His Word and trust His grace, I’ll cast on Him my every care and wait for thee, sweet hour of prayer!

  19. I. SERIOUS PRAYER IS RECOGNIZING OUR NEED TO ASK GOD FOR GUIDANCE AND PROTECTION.

  20. II. SERIOUS PRAYER AND FASTING IS MAKING SPIRITUAL PREPARATIONS BEFORE MAKING PHYSICAL PREPARATIONS.

  21. • Shows dependence on God for protection. • Shows faith that God is in control. • Shows affirmation that we’re not strong enough or wise enough to make decisions or a journey without Him.

  22. • Shows that one is taking the time to put God first in preparing well for whatever lies ahead. • Shows that one does not take the promises of God for granted. • Acknowledges that God’s Blessings are appropriated through prayer.

  23. III. SERIOUS PRAYER AND FASTING IS HUMBLING.

  24. • Fasting is a reminder of complete dependence on God. • Fasting gives more time to pray and meditate on God.

  25. IV. SERIOUS PRAYER REQUIRES CONCENTRATION.

  26. • Get’s one in touch with God’s will. • Can bring real change in one’s life. • Guards against superficiality and the idea of a quick fix.

  27. V. SERIOUS PRAYER TELLS EVERYONE THAT YOU WORSHIP A GRACIOUS GOD WHO WILL TAKE CARE OF YOU.
