Why Leo Clubs? • To make available to Lions clubs an activity whereby they may serve the needs of youth in their respective areas. • To provide the youth of the world an opportunity for development and contribution, individually and collectively, as responsible members of the local, national and international communities. • To promote service activities among the youth of the community to develop the individual qualities of Leadership, Experience and Opportunity, and to unite its members in friendship, fellowship and mutual understanding.

Recent Findings about Leo Clubs • Omega Leo Clubs = Competing Format to Lions Clubs • In some cases, Leo clubs have become an alternative format to Lions clubs and no longer serve as a youth development program. • The large number of Omega clubs may be hindering the recruitment of younger members into Lions clubs. • Developing Lions clubs that are more attractive and inviting for former Leos to join will help increase Lions membership among former Leos. • Alpha Leo Clubs = Stronger Lions Clubs + Future Members • Project Refresh showed that Lions clubs sponsoring Alpha clubs have: • A growing membership • Higher member involvement • Younger, more active members

  10. How We Will Re-Establish the Purpose of Leo Clubs . . .. . . And Strengthen Our Lions Clubs • Build an infrastructure which enables the LCI Youth Programs Department to focus on program development efforts. • Grow the number of Alpha clubs. • Emphasize support and resources for Alpha Leos. • Create Lions clubs that are attractive to young people. • Encourage whole Omega clubs to become Lions clubs. • Invite individual Omega Leos to join Lions clubs.

  11. Build an Infrastructure which Enables Youth Programsto Focus on Program Development Efforts

Grow the Number of Alpha Leo Clubs • Identify best practices for chartering and sponsoring Alpha clubs. • Identify Lions clubs with high potential for sponsoring Alpha clubs, followed by a targeted outreach plan to encourage these Lions clubs to sponsor Alpha clubs. • Identify locations in specific constitutional areas where Alpha clubs may not be as common, but in which a specific multiple district has been successful with continued sponsorship of Alpha clubs. • Compile and analyze Leo club termination data to identify methods to retain more Alpha clubs.

Encourage Leos to Become LionsInvolvement of Former Leos in Recruitment Strategies = Key to Success A welcoming culture and environment, including incentives to encourage Leos to become Lions, are necessary at both the international and local levels. Any incentives at the local level should be tailored to meet the needs of former Leos from a particular area. Former Leos in many cases gained a significant amount of leadership skills during their time in the Leo Club Program. They want to put these skills to use as Lions.

Leo Lion Coordinator Pilot • Leo to Lion Coordinator • Authorized by the Long Range Planning Committee • Began January 1, 2012 • 19 coordinators are piloting the position • Purpose: • Educate Lions how to transition Leos into Lions • Promote the Leo to Lion Program • Encourage Leos to become Lions or form a new club

Leo Lion Coordinator Pilot • Successes • Leo to Lion promotion at seminars and Leo visits • Club chartered in Turkey with 108 Leos • Increase of Leo Completion of Service Certificate requests • 218 Leo Lion members added in districts with a coordinator • 5 Leo Lion Clubs chartered in districts with a coordinator
