  2. Act 2:17-18 "In the Last Days," God says, "I will pour out my Spirit on every kind of people: Your sons will prophesy, also your daughters; Your young men will see visions, your old men dream dreams. When the time comes, I'll pour out my Spirit On those who serve me, men and women both, and they'll prophesy.

  3. What happened to King Saul… 1Sa 10:6 The Spirit of the LORD will come upon you in power, and you will prophesy with them; and you will be changed into a different person.

  4. Act 2:17-18 "In the Last Days," God says, "I will pour out my Spiriton every kind of people: Your sons will prophesy, also your daughters; Your young men will see visions, your old men dream dreams. When the time comes, I'll pour out my Spirit On those who serve me, men and women both, and they'll prophesy.

  5. Brush up on Holy Spirit knowledge… • He creates and gives life. • He reproves. • He comforts. • He helps our infirmities. • He teaches. • He guides. • He testifies of Christ. • He glorifies Christ. • He dwells with saints. • He convicts • He strengthens • He can be grieved. •  He can be vexed.  He can be resisted. • He can be tempted.

  6. He Creates … Gen 1:2 Now the earth was formless and empty, darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of God was hovering over the waters.

  7. He Comforts … John 14:16 And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may be with you for ever.

  8. He Convicts … John 16:8 When he comes, he will convict the world of guilt in regard to sin and righteousness and judgment.

  9. He Connects … 1Co 12:3 Therefore I tell you that no one who is speaking by the Spirit of God says, "Jesus be cursed," and no one can say, "Jesus is Lord," except by the Holy Spirit.

  10. The Ministry of the Spirit – Prophecy

  11. PROPHECY Prophet; prophesy; prophetic; Prophecy is divinely inspired and anointed utterance; a supernatural proclamation in a known language.

  12. Some Common Misconceptions About Prophecy…The gift of prophecy (I Corinthians 12) and the office of the prophet (Ephesians 4:11) are not the same thing.

  13. Act 21:8-9 Leaving the next day, we reached Caesarea and stayed at the house of Philip the evangelist, one of the Seven. He had four unmarried daughters who prophesied.

  14. Act 21:10-11 After we had been there a number of days, a prophet named Agabus came down from Judea. Coming over to us, he took Paul's belt, tied his own hands and feet with it and said, "The Holy Spirit says, 'In this way the Jews of Jerusalem will bind the owner of this belt and will hand him over to the Gentiles.'"

  15. What PROPHECY is not… Prophecy is not the interpretation of tongues. Prophecy is not prediction. Prophecy is not the same thing as preaching.

  16. A simple definition: The word prophecy means to "bubble up, to flow forth, or to cause to drop like rain." Teaching and preaching are preplanned, but prophecy is not.

  17. Prophesying at New Life 1 Corinthians 14.1-40

  18. 1Co 14:1 Love should be your guide. Be eager to have the gifts that come from the Holy Spirit, especially the gift of prophecy.

  19. Principle #1: Love is the base for the presence of Spirit activity in the church.

  20. 1Co 14:3 But he who prophesies speaks edification and exhortation and comfort to men.

  21. Principle #2: Understanding the purpose a work creates an atmosphere of Spirit activity in the church.

  22. 1Co 14:3 But he who prophesies speaks edification and exhortation and comfort to men. Edify – To edify means “to build up.” In its root meaning it signifies “to erect, to strengthen, to build up.

  23. Principle #3: Building up is the function of a Spirit-filled believer.

  24. 1Co 14:4 The one who prays using a private "prayer language" certainly gets a lot out of it, but proclaiming God's truth to the church in its common language brings the whole church into growth and strength.

  25. 1Co 14:3 But he who prophesies speaks edification and exhortation and comfort to men. Exhortation – To exhort means “call to one’s side.” In its root meaning it signifies “to import, to encourage, to refresh.

  26. Principle #4: Encouragement is one of the lifelines of any fellowship.

  27. 2Ch 15:1-3 The Spirit of God came upon Azariah son of Oded. He went out to meet Asa and said to him, "Listen to me, Asa and all Judah and Benjamin. The LORD is with you when you are with him. If you seek him, he will be found by you, but if you forsake him, he will forsake you. For a long time Israel was without the true God, without a priest to teach and without the law.

  28. 2Ch 15:4-7 But in their distress they turned to the LORD, the God of Israel, and sought him, and he was found by them. In those days it was not safe to travel about, for all the inhabitants of the lands were in great turmoil. One nation was being crushed by another and one city by another, because God was troubling them with every kind of distress. But as for you, be strong and do not give up, for your work will be rewarded."

  29. 2Ch 15:8 When Asa heard these words and the prophecy of Azariah son of Oded the prophet, he took courage. He removed the detestable idols from the whole land of Judah and Benjamin and from the towns he had captured in the hills of Ephraim. He repaired the altar of the LORD that was in front of the portico of the LORD's temple.

  30. 1Co 14:3 But he who prophesies speaks edification and exhortation and comfort to men. Comfort – To comfort means “consolation.” In its root meaning it signifies persuading, or of arousing and stimulating, or of calming and consoling. (healing of distress/sorrow)
