  8. Chasing Sunshine People travel for a lot of reasons. Some tourists want to see battlefields or religious shrines. Others hope to experience different culture, or simply take some pictures in front of some famous places. But most European tourists are chasing a sunny beach. The Mediterranean is the sunny beach for Europeans. The days are very short in winter in the European countries, for example, residents in the cities like London, Copenhagen, and Amsterdam usually spend the winter in the dark. What’s more, the rest three seasons of a year are often rainy. Therefore, more than 25 million people from Europe go to the resort-the Mediterranean to enjoy sunshine every summer.

  9. In northern Europe, the winter is long but the summer is short. To chase sunshine, people there are willing to pay a lot of money for enjoying sunshine in the Mediterranean. Thirty thousand hotels in Italy are booked up every summer. More than 13 million tourists have to camp out on the beaches, in the parks, or on the roadsides in France. The long coastline in Spain attracts people most. About 37 million tourists visit it every year, and the tourists are as many as the residents in Spain. Tens of thousands of tourists greatly contribute to the development of Mediterranean countries economies. The Mediterranean is so touristy that it has already become one of the most polluted seas on earth. However, this can’t prevent the Mediterranean from being chased by more and more tourists every year. It’s obvious that the European tourists visit the Mediterranean not for clean water or beautiful surroundings but for sunshine. They prefer enjoying sunshine in the Mediterranean to staying in the cold rain in Berlin, London or Oslo. Nothing can spoil their mood in travelling except the bad weather, for they love sunshine deeply.
