Fashion and Fabs!!! • Some of the fads and fashions of the 1960's are familiar to us today! • s omeof which include the hippie style, along with many other kinds of hair styles, and clothes styles. High boots with a little heel were popular.  The top of the boot came a little more than half way up to the knee. Fingernail polish was fashionable for women. Colors were light pink and very light reds.  Pale lipsticks and black eyeliner were also in.  A lot of the women wore false eyelashes.  They made the eyelashes look even longer and darker.  Mini skirts were a huge fashion trend also!!!

  3. Slang!!! • Bad =Awesome. • A Gas means a lot of fun. All show and no go is referenced to a car that had all the pretty chrome goodies, but wouldn't get out of its own way. Ankle Biter is A baby or small child!!!!

  4. Economy • During the 1960s the United States experienced its longest period of economic expansion in history. In the 1960s housing and computer industry overpowered automobiles, chemicals, and electrically powered consumer durables, which were the leading sectors in the 1950s. Big business dominated the domestic economy during this time. In 1962 the five largest corporations accounted for over 12 percent of all assets in manufacturing. By 1965 General Motors, standard old of New Jersey and ford had larger incomes than all the farms in the United States. America’s overseas investment increased to $49.2 billion in 1965.

  5. Culture • The peace sign, designed and first used in the United Kingdom in the Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament, became a major symbol of the 1960s. • Beatles came out with the song “all you need is love”.

  6. Political issues/political leaders • John F. Kennedy was the president. • People were excited because they just came out of the Vietnam war! • People were against racism to colored people. They were inspired by Martin Luther king Jr.

  7. Interesting facts • These dances were invented in the 1960s: the Twist, the Jerk, the Swim, the Mashed potato, the Monkey, and the Watusi. • Martin Luther King Jr. gave his "I have a dream" speech in 1963.
