The research and theory underlying the recommendations made here have been detailed in the book Building Background Knowledge for Academic Achievement (Marzano, 2004). Briefly, though, the logic of such an endeavor is that the more general background knowledge a student has about the academic content that will be addressed in a given class or course, the easier it is for the student to understand and learn the new content addressed in that class or course. • Please click here to return to the HUB Agenda. • For more information on BAV, click here.

  15. Understanding and Using Lexile Scores • Presenter – Stacie Brown • Elementary Curriculum Coordinator, (PK-6), • Granbury ISD, Texas • Explore the fundamentals of The Lexile Framework for Reading! The half-day “awareness” workshop provides an overview of how you can use Lexile measures to successfully manage your reading instructional programs and resources. • Our State CRT scores will now come with a Lexile Reading. So instead of saying a kid scored a 730 and leaving it at that, we can now tie that to a lexile score which will allow us to apply these measures to instructional materials and library books for individual students. • This lexile score can also be translated to the Accelerated Reader Program. • Please click here to view more information on lexile scores. • Please click here to return to the Site Index

  16. Lexile PD • Lexile Professional Development • The Lexile Framework for Reading provides a common developmental scale for matching reader ability and text difficulty. Recognized as the most widely adopted reading measure, Lexiles enable educators to: • ·       Match students to appropriately challenging texts, across grades and content areas • ·       Achieve your instructional and curricular objectives • ·       Meet federal, state and district requirements for student performance and growth • ·       Differentiate instruction and manage comprehension, and much more! • Half-Day Workshop: Foundations of the Lexile Framework • Explore the fundamentals of The Lexile Framework for Reading!
