  2. What is a mission statement? • A mission statement is a short, 35 words or less, statement that describes your business’ • Values • Vision • Purpose

  3. Values • How will you treat your employees and customers? • Should reflect your own personal values and morals. • “Doing business ethically and being honest.” • “Treating all people with dignity.” • Write down your values.

  4. Vision • Where do you see your business in 3 to 5 years? • This will define and shape your future. • Write down your vision.

  5. Purpose • Purpose is broken into two sections; what your business does for you and for your customers. • Internal • What will this business do for you? • External • What will it do for the customer? • What needs will you fill for your customers?

  6. Purpose • Example: • I love pizza! The internal purpose of my business is that it will give me a chance to make pizzas. The external purpose of my business will be to provide the best pizza to satisfy the hunger of my customers. • Write down your internal and external purpose.

  7. The Mission Statement • Now, try to sum up your values, vision, and purpose in 35 words or less. • Stay focused and short. • Use the Present Tense. • Stay positive, with no “ifs”. • Go to www.missionstatements.com for more examples. • Fill out the Mission Statement Worksheet.
