FPT.PEOPLE-2011-IRSESProject No. 295050Project acronym: FOLSPEC Functioning of the Local Production Systems in the Conditions of Economic Crisis (Comparative Analysis and Benchmarking for the EU and Beyond) PROPOSAL OF UL • 1st monograph • THEORY: Review of definitions of local production systems and similar terms (such as industrial districts, clusters, technopoles, innovative milieux, etc.), in order to depict interrelations between them and acquire common definition of LPS. Each country: 2 papers • APPLICATION: Review of institutional conditions (broadly understood), for the functioning of not only of LPS but also small and medium sized enterprises in general: • General background of each country – overview of macroeconomic situation, regional disparities, historical path-dependencies of each country development or regional development, etc. • Specializationsof regions in each country Each country: 2 papers • 2nd monograph • APPLICATION: Overview of the structures of local and regional administration and self-government in each country. Each country: 1 paper • APPLICATION: Overview of institutional support for LPS from governments and self-governments as well as from EU funds, special economic zones, etc. Each country: 1 paper • APPLICATION: Case studies of chosen local production systems (or their different forms such as clusters, technological districts, etc.). On thetheory and modelsoflocalproduction systems Joining chapter 1 and chapter 2 of your proposal as it will be difficult to separate theories form models 2. Typology of local production systems 3. Functioning of local production systems and its effects Last part should be more “broad” and refer also to the environment (economic, political, institutional) for functioning of enterprises (especially small end medium ones as potential “cores” of LPS). It will also allow us to compare our countries. Functioning of LPS should be, we think, “reserved” for the second monograph. WE ALSO SUGGEST REPLACING CHAPTERS BY PARTS, WHICH WILL INCLUDE CHAPTERS. THIS OPERATION WILL MAKE STRUCTURE OF MONOGRAPH MORE FLEXIBLE University of Łodź, 27th of August, 2012

Models for development of territorial organization of production To examine a theory and models of LPS separately. Perhaps, it needs to devote the first part to the theory only. 3.
