  2. TCM is a two source facility for testing and improving CO2 capture technology. Knowledge gained will prepare the ground for CO2 capture initiatives to combat climate change.

  3. TCM – Highlights 2005 • Government policy: No carbon based power generationin Norway without CCS • Norwegian Government and Statoil agreed 2-staged approach: • 1: Demonstrate and develop capture technologies (TCM) • 2: Build large scale (1 mTons CO2/year) capture plant • Investment decision taken for TCM. • Partnership established (TCM DA) • Official inauguration in May 2012 • Five year initial test period started 2006 2009 2012

  4. Sea water inlet Area for futuretechnologies Power plant CO2 vent Amine plant Chilledammonia plant Catalytic cracker Utility systems Substation Admin complex

  5. Power plant flue gas = 3.5% CO2 Refinery RCC flue gas = 13% CO2

  6. Collecting data from 4000 online instruments Analyzing samples from 100 sampling points Multi-disciplinetechnical staff WWW.tcmda.com

  7. Establish CCS as cost efficient climate solution with acceptable risk • Reduce costs (Cost/kWh) • Mitigate risks when implementingfull-scale CC- solutions 1 Drive technology development through utilizing available infrastructure • Be an active part in shaping the CCS-technology landscape 2 Develope and position TCM in a global knowledge- and test network • Ensure an acctive global network • Exploit synergy with other playersand institutions 3 Develop a business model for testing technology at TCM which is attractive to technology-developers and technology-vendors. • Offer a test facilitythat is attractive for technologysuppliers and R&D institutions, this to secureshighactivitylevel and therebycontribute to the global CCS development 4

  8. Testing activities at the Amine Plant • Initial test period for 15 months with Aker Clean Carbon • Focus on process performance, mainly energy efficiency - steam and electricity consumption -, solvent degradation and emissions monitoring. • Online instruments monitoring the plant performance and emissions. • Lab programme and third party measurement campaigns focusses on monitoring solvent performance, degradation and emissions to air and water. • Baseline study with MEA solvent to validate simulation model as well as providing a base case for future vendors. • Goal: Establish an energy efficient process and to mitigate risks when implementing a full-scale Carbon Capture Unit

  9. Future utilization of Amine plant • Good response to “Request for interest” (RFI) for use of the Amine plant. • Short listed: Aker, Siemens, Hitachi, Mitsubishi • The Amine test unit will be available for one of the short listed beginning 2014.

  10. Testing activities at the Chilled Ammonia Plant • Initial period of 13months (+ optional 6 months) based on test program developed by Alstom. • Focus on process optimization, including: energy efficiency, ammonia consumption and low emissions, steady state and transient operations, impact of flue gas impurities. • The solvent composition do not produce degradation products and is based on a low cost and available solvent. The solvent (ammonia +water) is simple and the mixture with CO2 do not require other components/additives to avoid corrosion, foaming, degradation etc. From this, basically simple solution (O, C, N, H and traces of S), measurements of N and C allow the development of a reliable simulation model, based on the tests, for calculation of the heat and mass balances. • To air ammonia is measured. • Goal: Establish an energy efficient process and to mitigate risks when implementing a full-scale Carbon Capture Unit

  11. Utilization of avaliable site • Invitation to vendors to use the available open slot/land, utilitiesand other infrastructure • Open for acceptance until 01.07.2013 www.tcmda.com/Global/Dokumenter
