  1. CSR 309 Blog Analysis Jennifer Carson’s analysis of Holly Coatsolonia Blogs

  2. PROs • Holly thought about the leadership displayed in her summer internship • Her manager was a bad leader because he was not friendly • She commented that leaders need to be good communicators • Through words and body language • Always be prepared • “We are the future leaders and need to set the example and challenge the process” • The bar is so low…we only need to do a little in order set ourselves apart (Kirk Weisler) • Could popularity and appearance affect an individual’s opinion of a leader?

  3. CONs • She did not apply the leadership to her own life • She commented about leaders, but not what makes them great leaders • She believe that Ronald Reagan is the greatest leader…but why? • She commented about managers and leaders as the same- but they are not • Failed to mention the important part of the survival activity • Chose items for survival or to be seen and rescued? • A great leader would plan for the future and want to be rescued • Failed to see the connection between Kirk Weisler’s presentation and leadership

  4. Examples of Blogs and Commentaries • Holly: “One of the best leaders of all time, in my personal opinion, was Ronald Reagan.” • “What makes Ronald Reagan a great leader? What did he do specifically to make him a great leader? Just because a man in an excellent president does not mean he is a good leader.” (my comment) • “Kirk Weisler was an amazing presenter. In terms of leadership, I felt as if his presentation wasn't completely focused on leadership but rather then qualities that contribute to one being a good person as a whole.” • “I disagree about the comment how the workshop was more focused on qualities than leadership. All of the qualities he was talking about is what makes a leader.”

  5. Examples of Blogs and Commentaries • Holly: “My point being throughout all of this is the importance of being prepared.” • “That was a good point to be prepared at all times. How does this tie into leadership? I think that leaders need to be prepared for everything, they need to plan ahead. A good leader is prepared for everything.” • Holly: “The importance of communication possibly may play a larger part during this next election because of the way President George W. Bush addresses the American public. He is an amazingly smart man, but he has been belittles throughout the past seven years because of his uneasiness in front of an audience.” • “I believe that communication will play an important part in the next elections. I agree that Bush is very smart, but he does have problems addressing the nation.”

  6. Examples of Blogs and Commentaries • Holly: “Throughout the positions and different job tasks that i have worked, the similarity of all the great leaders were their communication strategy. Is it possible to be amazing if you don't know how to talk to your workers, or even know their names?” • “That is a good point about a common characteristic of good leaders.” • The best quote in Holly’s blogs:“The future leaders are us and we need to examine what we're doing.”
