  3. The iPad Pilot: Why? Mobile tablet devices have obvious potential to be used throughout the Lloyd’s market, bringing technology and greater efficiencies to the face to face business process, driving innovation and supporting the strategic plans for the TMEL Why look at it? • Obvious potential to support face to face negotiation • Brings electronic data capture in to process • Gives brokers multiple tools to support broking process • Aligned with other initiatives, i.e. work on TMEL • Saves everyone’s arm muscles, it’s popular and brokers love nice toys

The iPad Pilot: Approach The main objective was to facilitate the exploration of opportunities and support the market in expanding the use of tablet technology • Lloyd’s has provided 30 iPads across the brokers involved • Some pilot brokers have invested in their own tablets • To date Lloyd’s role in the project has been to • facilitate use of the iPads • raise awareness • provide a platform for discussion of ideas and processes • introduce solution providers to the participants

The iPad Pilot:Are Lloyd’s building a central app? • The team agreed that Lloyd's should not get in to the space of buying or building a central 'app' on the basis that: • There are currently several vendors able to offer relevant solutions and choice is a good thing • Intuitive software removes the need for one “familiar” solution

  11. The iPad Pilot: Outcomes… Consenus on the benefits of tablets • Supports face to face broking • Entire internet available at broke • Increased efficiencies across the market • Structured data • Full audit trail; single version of the truth

The iPad Pilot: Outcomes… Wi-Fi at Lloyd’s • Lloyd’s has implemented a secure, free to use Wi-Fi: • This has been implemented on all underwriting floors at Lloyd’s • Currently, this allows up to 220 connections • Select “Lloyd’s Wi-Fi” from the available networks • The password is available at the LITA desk

  13. The iPad Pilot: Outcomes… Changes to broking practices • Each broker has completed a “broking practices” form • The forms are available to view at www.lloyds.com/ipads

The iPad Pilot: Outcomes… Initial concerns, issues and security • Is the iPad the right product? • iPads must be synchronised with an iTunes account • Security concerns • Jailbreaking • IT support concerns - including separation of personal data from work data • Cultural changes - hearts and minds of market practitioners

The iPad Pilot: The pilot 2012 - 2013 • The iPad Pilot is going to continue for the foreseeable future • Solution providers continuing to invest in solutions for the market • Lloyd’s will continue to facilitate the use of iPads, other tablets and new technologies • Use of the Lloyd’s Wi-Fi will be monitored and upgraded if appropriate • Lloyd’s will continue to review the need for any central services / web apps
