  1. ENSURE COMPLETE SAFETY AT YOUR WORKPLACE - OSHA FORKLIFT REGULATIONS Forklifts are of immense importance for moving heavy loads quickly in most of the warehouses and job sites. These trucks are used to carry out the job at a faster pace safely, only when the operator abides by all the rules and regulations as driving a forklift truck involves some risk. Every year, forklifts are involved in more than 90,000 accidents in the United States. 61,000 of them cause minor injuries, whereas nearly 35,000 results in serious injury. OSHA Forklift Regulations - The forklift safety guidelines are outlined in the OSHA Forklift Standards. We have mentioned the OSHA forklift regulations below - General requirements - This section includes safety guidelines for fire protection and design, as well as the maintenance and operation of certain types of trucks, including forklifts. All new and used forklifts must meet the required design and construction guidelines. These can be found in the "US National Standard for Motorized Industrial Trucks, Part II, ANSI B56.1-1969". All vehicles need to have a label or other mark proving the approval of the testing laboratory. An approved forklift has passed specific fire safety tests managed by a recognized testing company using valid test standards. Any change that alters the capacity and safety of a forklift must have the manufacturer's written approval. OSHA Forklift Standards - Designations -

  2. Battery charging stations must be positioned in areas where it is used for that purpose only. A suspended conveyor or hoist must be used to drive. Truck recharged batteries must be safe. Trucks must brake to change or charge the battery. The battery vent caps must be in good working order. Other OSHA Forklift Guidelines - Places of use -OSHA has set a few rules that govern the trucking area for the protection of people working at any workspace. They are divided into three classes: Class 1: Space where flammable gases or vapors can produce explosive mixtures. Class 2: Spaces where combustible dust presents a hazard. Class 3: Spaces with flammable mixtures in amounts that are unlikely to ignite Fuel handling and storage - Gas, diesel fuel, and LPG must be stored and handled in accordance with the regulation of the NFPA Flammable and Combustible Liquids Code guidelines. Security guards - Forklifts must have superior protection that meets ANSI guidelines for motorized vehicles. If the load has a hazard, the lift truck needs to have a vertical load backup extension. Lighting in areas of use - Use extra lighting in case standard lighting is less than two lumens per square foot. Additions regulations - Apart from all the above mentioned OSHA forklift regulation, it is crucial to check that the truck operators are trained and certified. The workspace owner should ensure that untrained workers are not using the vehicle or are traveling on it. To guarantee the safety of workers, drivers need to maintain a safe distance between truck and individuals. Forklift trucks should be driven slowly while going up or down slopes. Trucks must be driven at a speed that allows for a safe stop. The conclusion - This is just a small gist of what OSHA forklift regulations include.
