  4. Summary of the interview with Ms Kipnis • According to Ms. Kipnis , a lecturer at Truman College , the philosophy of Nursing is about assisting human beings to an optimal level of adaptation and that can be physically and emotionally holistic view. There are true science and real arts to it, which are very humanistic. There are some things that are factual and more abstract, some are even spiritual and you can’t even put your hands on it. It is a cliché, but we can really make a difference, and if that is valuable to you then you are able to make a difference being a nurse. There is lot of flexibility being a nurse in terms of different roles of nursing, so you can be everything from a bedside nurse, researcher, nurse practitioner, and to an educator. It is endless what nurses can do because there are lots of nurses’ roles. You are always changing and there are always new things to learn. The first reason she chooses Truman College is because staffs and students demonstrate good teamwork. Truman has a higher ranking than the national average in the state board exams. The faculty is a very stable and faculty member work together very well .The second reason is the diversity of students at Truman College. Lastly, the students that come here are very dedicated in general and they work hard because they wanted to succeed. • To get into nursing program, the nursing department looks at the grade point average, letters of recommendation, and the criteria for a student to get in. Often when students graduate they end up going to a hospital setting because that’s how they were taught in class. Ms Kipnis says that, the advice she can give is first of all students studying nursing is to enjoy being a nurse because it’s a great career and a great profession. Next, never stop learning and always seek to learn more, because there is more information out there. • Finally, be willing to teach others, and always remember to be a team player. In health care every person on the team is equally essential, we just have different roles. We have to view everyone as an important person whether he/she is a doctor, nurse, dietician, CNA…and if you work with everyone harmoniously then you’re giving the patient and yourself a favor to give an excellent service.
