  2. WHY? • To provide a GOAL for students • To encourage the development of self discipline for ACADEMIC ACHIEVEMENT • Teach sound STUDY HABITS • Encourage PARENT INVOLVEMENT in learning • Develop the SKILLS and ATTITUDE necessary to achieve the student best in NCEA

  3. How it will work? • Each subject will carry a number of credits. • Faculties will divide these between the various assessments the students will be completing. i.e. Tests, Assignments • Some credits will be allocated to Self Management. i.e. Homework, Bookwork, Effort, Co-operation.

  4. REACHING THE STANDARD • To Reach the Standard a student must achieve 66% of the total Credits available • What will happen if a student appears to NOT be meeting the standard? • Extra assistance • Parents called in • Holiday assignments to catch up • Lunchtime classes • After school classes • Catch up instead of Yr 9 Camp The Action will depend on the reason for Not Achieving. Students will be provided with all the support possible, to achieve at the highest level. Students will be expected to make the necessary effort.

  6. Grade Point Average Grades achieved area given the following values N = 0 A = 2 M = 3 E = 4 These are multiplied by the number of credits for each assessment. The student total is divided by the total possible to gain a percentage.   7. Graduating with Merit/Excellence If a students grade point average is • 70 - 80% they will graduate with Merit • 80% or above they will graduate with Excellence

  9. Parent Support • Take an interest • Provide HOMEWORK space and support • Encourage the importance of academics • Help provide a balance betweeen jobs/sports/homework/other commitments • Encourage Excellence

Student Responsibility • Make success important • Be prepared to work • Do one hours homework EVERY night • Study for tests • Spend time on assignments to do your best work • Be prepared with equipment • Be on time and in correct uniform • Be pleasant and co-operative with teachers • Support your friends in making good choices
