  5. WELCOME TO CRAIOVA! An ancient fortified residence of Romanian princes -The Bans-, Craiova, the most important southern Romanian city after the capital Bucharest, is nowadays a large commercial, industrial, and university centre, a modern and dynamic 300,000 inhabitants city. Located in Jiu's Valley, Craiova -the historical capital of Oltenia Region- is situated in this region’s centre at 230 km west of Bucharest on the route to Timişoara. At the turn of the XIX-th Century representative buildings were erected, with a remarkable architecture, like The Minerva Hotel -in Spanish Arabian style, The Bank of Commerce, The Governor's House, The Palace of Justice. The Jean-Michail Palace –the actual Art Museum- exhibits a part of the original collection of the great Romanian sculpturor, Constantin Brâncuşi, a world-wide known personality who was born in this area.

  6. An important cultural centre, with a theatre tradition since 1850, The National Theatre of Craiova is one of the best-known theatres in the world and the most representative of all Romanian theatres in the South. The city is south bordered by the Romanescu Park, a romantic scenery work achieved between 1901-1902 based on the project of a French designer and architect E. Redont. This park is nowadays one of the largest natural south-eastern European parks, covering almost 1 square mile with rare species of trees, a beautiful suspended bridge over a peaceful lake and a zoo. Surrounded by large wine producing regions like Craiova Hills and Segarcea, Craiova is also famous for its grape brandy and wine... We are looking forward to your visit in our city.
