Please do not remove slips.) • Students will report here each morning for attendance and announcements. Remain for 1st period. • FLEX at the end of the day. This is a time for homework, make-up missed work or meet with teachers as needed.

  3. What will you need for class? • Binder (with a section for Math) • Pencils (sharpened in homeroom) • Erasers • Marking Pen (any color) • Pencil Pouch or container for supplies • Completed Homework  • Positive Attitude!

  4. MATHEMATICAL PRACTICES Mathematically proficient students will… • Make sense of problems and persevere in solving them. • Reason abstractly and quantitatively (symbols and numbers). • Construct viable arguments and critique the reasoning of others. • Model with mathematics (equation). • Use appropriate tools strategically. • Attend to precision(accurateanswer using an efficientmethod). • Look for and make use of structure. • Look for and express regularity in repeated reasoning.

  5. Concepts Covered - Academic The Number System • Apply and extend previous understandings of multiplication and division to divide fractions by fractions. • Compute fluently with multi-digit numbers and find common factors and multiples. • Apply and extend previous understandings of numbers to the system of rational numbers. Expressions and Equations • Apply and extend previous understandings of arithmetic to algebraic expressions. • Reason about and solve one-variable equations and inequalities. • Represent and analyze quantitative relationships between dependent and independent variables. Ratios and Proportional Relationships • Understand ratio concepts and use ratio reasoning to solve problems.(Tape Diagrams) Geometry • Solve real-world and mathematical problems involving area, surface area, and volume. Statistics and Probability • Develop understanding of statistical variability. • Summarize and describe distributions.

  6. Concepts Covered Advanced Academic

  7. Things Parents May Want to Know • Homework and lessons (when possible) are placed on the team website daily http://wmlsupernovas.wikispaces.com/ This site will tell you when there is an upcoming test/quiz as well as keep you posted on homework assignments/projects etc. and show resources (powerpoints) Please check daily. • Grades will be available on Home Access and updated on a regular basis. • Extra help in math is available before and/or after school when pre-arranged, as well as during lunch and FLEX time as needed. • SECOND CHANCE LEARNING - partial credit for assignment/quiz corrections (1 retake per marking period).
