To create a map of NEET provision across the South • To develop a collective marketing strategy for NEET young people and implement it across the south • To develop curriculum maps for each area which reflect progression available against LLMI • Pilot i-essex with a group of providers • Make use of the web pages as a communication tool • Make use of the Area Prospectus • Make use of the ILP with integrated IAG tools • Effective use of the Early Intervention tools (ACHIEVE) • Work with ECC train 50 STEM employers to work with young people in schools to promote STEM careers • Update SWELL Directory • Schools adopt the Employability for Life Charter • Post 16 providers pilot EFL Plus Aims 2012/13

  3. Infrastructure • Coordinate NEET activity in the south • Better use of Labour Market Information LMI • Seek to harness the Potential power of electronic tools to enable young people to plan next steps

Successes? • NEET activity mapped each month for a more coordinated approach to opportunities • Improved marketing-providers are more aware of what each other offer • i-Essex was launched last November. It is a tool to support schools with CEIAG and RPA • All schools in CPR bar one have bought i-essex • New Latest Opportunities channel advertises courses available throughout the year. From October, this will include apprenticeships, employment and volunteering • Work and Skills channel launched on i-essex in October 2012 • The Connexions website has closed and there is a redirection to i-essex • A jobs bulletin is circulated monthly and will be available electronically at the end of October • Early reports suggest that the new Area Prospectus is being used well to direct young people at 16+ • Providers are keen support i-essex

NEET prevention • Effective use of Early NEET Intervention tools from ECC • Develop Area Prospectus in conjunction with the ECC • Create a resource to work with young people in schools as aspirational role models. • Ensure young people have core skills for employability • Build on the existing good practice in the south eg Careers Education and Guidance • Effective use of APG website/communication tools to aid YP, staff, parents and carers

  6. Successes? • The Year 10 Early Intervention toolkit (ACHIEVE) was been piloted with 6 schools in the south. This included Sweyne Park, Deanes and Cornelius • Schools have reacted positively to the tools and feel that it could help identify and support potential NEETs more effectively. • A new version of the tool is out at the end of this month and will be rolled out across all schools in the south • A Year 8 and 9 version of ACHIEVE will be launched in November to support schools with more vulnerable young people • The Area Prospectus is well used by schools to sign post young people at 16 • Governors have been trained to be mentors in schools in CPR. There have been mixed results in their use in schools to date • Apprentices have been trained to be mentors in CPR. They will work with students from King Edmund School • The Employability for Life Charter was developed by Sweyne Park, but is now embedded in all schools in CPR. They are now piloting a post 16 version • CPR run a number of well attended events. These include an apprenticeship Fair and an NHS conference run with the Brittain Partnership • Webpages are being developed to support the area

  7. NEET Reduction • Developing new approaches to re-engaging young people who are NEET and new strategies to ensure successful recruitment of young people into opportunities on offer • Ensure young people have the core skills for employment

Successes • ‘Latest Opportunities’ channel shows available courses across Essex throughout the year. • There has been considerable interest from providers across the south to advertise NEET re-engagement courses, short courses and training. • Jobs, apprenticeships and volunteering will be advertised through this site from October • A post 16 managed move will be set up this year • EFL+ will be rolled out across the south

Plans for this year. • Raising aspirations at KS2- develop a junior EFL (Job Jungle) • A better understanding of apprenticeships • Development of i-essex- personal planner, LOC, W&S, TPS • Investigating a Level 2.5 in CPR and other flexible pathways • Solve data sharing issues between ECC and providers • Work with Prospects College re Canvey Skills Centre and new ‘Learning Zone’ (renewable energies)
