  1. My Life, My Musical Journey Richard Carlisi

  2. How it all started… I first developed a passion for music after listening to the Beach Boys when I was three years old. Good Vibrations was the first song I remember hearing by them- this would be one of many songs that would spark my musical journey, inspiring me to learn the string bass, take private lessons, join SSYO, attend CYM, and have the opportunity to perform twice in Carnegie Hall.

  3. The 4th Grade… This is where I first learned how to play the string bass. The first time I held onto my bass, I felt a mix of feelings- I’m holding onto a huge instrument with steel strings , and if I dropped it, I wouldn’t have had the courage to attempt it again. At the same time it was a thrill for me, because for the first time in my life, I would be the person creating the music.

  4. Private Lessons… In sixth grade, my parents signed me up for private bass lessons. I would be spending the next six years with my bass instructor, Christopher Neubert, and learning all I could about the bass, with the intention of applying it to my future teaching courses. He always pushed me to my limit, which I believe is why I have made it this far in my musical endeavors.

  5. Saratoga Springs Youth Orchestra… It was my private instructor who encouraged me to audition for SSYO. Little did I know I would end up being a member for three and a half years! SSYO was my first real exposure to a wide variety of music… genres including classical, rock, and jazz. After making it into SSYO, I knew from then on that music would be my one and only passion. I knew I would dedicate my life to learning, teaching, and creating music. It was the most incredible feeling in the world!

  6. Crane Youth Music… After my first summer at CYM, I prayed that this would one day be my college. I had my eye on Crane ever since the summer before entering eighth grade. Little did I know that I would end up studying music education here…my lifelong dream!

  7. Carnegie Hall… After years of hard work, dedication, and practice, I had the privilege of performing where many famous musicians once performed...Carnegie Hall! My orchestra teacher first nominated me to participate in the program, and after sending in an audition recording, I was one of only a few students selected from the U.S. to participate in the American High School Honors Orchestra, followed by the band a year after.

  8. Thank You!
