  1. Intelligent domotic systems Paul BORZA, Doru TALABĂ University Transilvania of Brasov Address Eroilor 29, 500036-Brasov ROMANIA paul.borza@siemens.com, talaba@unitbv.ro Patras, July 2006

  2. IntroductionWhat means Domotics? …a technological science which • studies all devices in the house or the building, facilitating the work and increasing the comfort of peoples, • is focused on theintegration of all automations within the house, ….and • creates an ideal environment for the human life  the DREAM HOUSE !

  3. Functionalities implemented into a “Dream House” Health care and monitoring

  4. What a current automate system is doing in house? A home automation system automates the whole house, • triggering events and routines involving light fixtures, • security components and • the heating/cooling system based on the time of day, temperature or any other condition that you select • Recognize stages and react adequate (specific) at these

  5. “Dream House” means integration and intelligence INTEGRATION (i) • Assures specialized control systems in house, such as: • HVAC; • White good elements; • Security and Access system; • Audio-video systems; • Motorized systems; • Monitoring systems; • Communication systems.

  6. Integration (1) • Fusion of different kinds of information (that means to take into account the majority or all of them at the reaction of smart objects) • Better coordinate the objects integrated in order to: • Saving energy or row materials • Increase functionality of smart elements • Reducing the reaction time • Sensing the context and adapt the own reaction • Adapting their response at the specificity of human operator

  7. Intelligence of elements (2) • This feature consist in the capacity of elements to offer: • An adequate response at stimuli or events assuring a correlation of the response with a large factors number. The result is function from the current stage of element and the interactions this and his neighborhoods) • Dynamic response (is changed during the response action) • Complex response ( the response is formed by a set of actions triggered by a specific event)

  8. INTEGRATION (ii)HVAC systems • Adapt better the parameters of systems to each other • Adjust dynamically those parameters in a synergetic way making life more pleasant • Save energy by optimizing the functioning regimes of HVAC

  9. INTEGRATION (iii):Lighting system • Optimize the light adequate with the destination of room or place illuminated • Switch automatically the bulbs by sensing the human presence in the room • Use a optimal illumination of rooms by combining the natural with artificial illumination • Accept a large variety of switching elements that can be placed with minimum restrictions on the walls of the room (see capa-link solutions)

  10. INTEGRATION (iv):Security and Access system • Seeing and talking to the person at the door or gate before opening it • Electronic door locks can provide security as well as the ability to lock the building or allow emergency access with one command • Accept a variety of configurations that allow to calculate a large kinds of logical functions between the sensing signals and the actuators controlled by system

  11. INTEGRATION (v):Audio video systems • The media room where the family can spend time together in a less formal entertainment setting. • Speech interface will provide the ability to control systems without having to press buttons or touch screens. • Provide a high conectivity with the other systems existing in house

  12. INTEGRATION (vi)Other systems: • Motorized door and windows and blind windows openers allow ventilation and access • Motorized window treatments can automatically open and close to allow sunlight and privacy as needed. • Remote vehicle starters provide a warm vehicle in the colder climates, and can open doors and ramps if the vehicle is so equipped.

  13. Design principles related to the sub-systems of the “Dream House” • Structural design means the representation (the model) of all elements included in house automations and the links between one each other • Functional design means the functional mapping of the useful functions in the housewith correspondent domotic sub-systems • Nature of elements: Hardware, Software • Design for spatial and temporal independence of elements plug and play, ad-hoc networking, ubiquitous systems • Financial aspects

  14. Facilities resulting from the integration • “one touch control” • optimal strategies and control • Aesthetics. • Remote location control and automated control. • Safety and security. • Providing control over indoor and outdoor • Energy conservation and environmental controls.

  15. What means intelligent device in house? • A element able to process information and to react specific at them • A element able to communicate with the peoples that populate the house • A element able to communicate with another machine in a network using protocols • A element able to change dynamically the functionalities according to the status of the entire system

  16. Intelligent building components

  17. Facet of implementations of domotic elements • Embedded solutions (dedicated to implement a function or a set of functions result of hardware and software correlation) • Networked solutions (means to correlate a lot of elements and parameters) • Software solutions: • Specific • Generic

  18. Smart objects versus computer assistance

  19. Spontaneous networking Cooperative work

  20. Subsystems of an intellingent house

  21. New Trends in Domotics • Ability of domotic systems to offer a wide range of functions such as: tele-working, monitoring of house parameters (temperature, humidity, illumination, energy consumption, security, access control), e-commerce, e-learning, automatic meter reading (AMR), remote health care monitoring, etc. • Transition to a world of services • Transition to an unified communication system (broad band connections) • Developing of generic functions able to discover, manage, and optimize the operation of elements, saving energy and row materials • Scalability of system developed (hardware and software) • Versatility and re-configurability of systems developed

  22. Functions that can be offered now in house • Automation of the majority of systems located in house • Using personal computers, PDA or mobile phones it is now possible to make the shopping to learn without any temporal or spatial restriction, to pay the invoice for electricity, water, gas • Using monitoring systems for main parameters like: pulse, respiratory and cardiac rhythms, temperature, ECG.

  23. Transition to a world of services • Tele control of the majority functions in house • Offer verified and selected data at demand • Offer video, audio at demand • Monitor the essential bio-physical parameters for inhabitants of house • Improve the services related to utilities provided for the house by an adequate chose of the provider for each of them (energy, water, gas, etc.) and by an optimal management.
