  2. ARI/ AMI CRIR Report • CRIR will be live on the TEA website by August 1st • CRIR deadline is 5:00 pm on October 2, 2006 • District contacts must have a TEA-SE # to access the e-Grant forms • www.tea.state.tx.us/forms/tease/egrantsext/htm

  3. State Dyslexia Handbook • Currently in the process of updating • Region 10 is taking the lead • Timeline • First draft was completed in May 06 • Draft to be taken to State Board in November • Hopefully, ready for publication in 2007 • Handbook will not be available in hard copy but will be available electronically

  4. ELA TEKS Refinements • TEA requested 3 experts from the field to speak with the Board prior to hearing the TEKS refinement update • The Board recommended that curriculum standards be reviewed from three states where the standards were “measurable” • “Measuarable” defined included through formal and informal assessment not just TAKS • There will be a larger undertaking for the ELA TEKS than had previously been spoken of as a refinement; it will include content and format • The refinement process and timeline will be K-12 and may be 2-3 years • The textbook proclamations are on hold due to House Bill 1 and are up for discussion at the next State Board meeting.

  5. House Bill 1 • FAQ’s in hotlinks • Uniform start date • No waivers will be granted beginning in 07-08 • All districts must provide college credit opportunities by Fall 08 • Graduation requirements

  6. TPRI • NEW: Screening section for Kindergarten will be administered beginning of the year and end of the year; no longer in the middle of the year.

Revising and Editing Selecting combined sentences Meaning of and when to use transitions Possessives Homonyms Sentence boundaries Complex sentences Composition Still seeing some formulaic writing 4 adjectives in front of noun Write about a trajedy Contrived Students working on one narrative to “perfection” all year until the test and then no matter what the prompt, regurgitate the narrative written. TAKS Writing Difficulties
