  1. Sea Anemone • By Erin Hawkins • Sea Anemones are known for being the most beautiful of all marine animals. • They live in all oceans.

  2. Sea Anemone’s Features • These creatures have tentacles that look like petals of some types of flowers. • They are found in a variety of different colors. • Their body is soft and cylinder-shaped. • They may be thick and short or long and slender.

  3. They can be found from the coast lines on rocky shores to very great depths of the ocean. They can be found in ocean water up to depths of 33,000 feet. Some anemones live in brackish water. Where are they found?

  4. These animals, when disturbed, can fold themselves inside out (they look like a laundry bag closed). They can sting either their prey or anything else bothering them with their nematocysts, stinging cells. Defense

  5. Some anemones eat only microorganisms • They are eaten by sea slugs, certain starfishes, eels, flounders, and codfish.

  6. A Few More Things To Know • They have no skeleton, but they may secrete a horny covering. • Sperm and eggs are usually discharged into the water, where fertilization can and usually takes place. • There are over 1000 species and vary in size.
