  3. How do we achieve it ? • build on our strength and relationship • build synergies with IAIA Affiliates and Branches • harness the potential and expertise of our members and partners

  4. 1. Enhance International Connection and Contribution (2001-2002) • Signed a MOU with RAMSAR secretariat in July 2001 on cooperation on ecological matters • Signed a MOU with UNEP in Nov/Dec 2001 on cooperation on trade/environment matters • Contributed to the Convention on Biological Diversity at the 7th meeting of SBSTT in November in Montreal

  5. 1. Enhance International Connection and Contribution (2001-2002) • Submission to and took part in the SEA Working Group under Espoo Convention in Nov 2001 • Submission to and took part in the third session of the WSSD Preparatory Committee in March/April 2002

Strengthen Regional Connection and Contribution (2001-2002) • Set up IAIA First Official Branch in Washington D.C. in September 2001; • Set up Western and Northern Canada Affiliate in November 2001; • Reached out to Africa by holding a mid-term Board meeting in West Africa and met with representatives from 22 nations in Nov. 2001;

  7. Enhance Professional Status & Contribution (2001-02) • Issued the first IAIA Strategic Action Plan Summary; initiated a review with comments from IAIA members; • Significantly revamped and enhanced the IAIA quarterly newsletter to enhance its professional content in January 2002;

  8. Enhance Professional Status & Contribution (2001-02) • Endorsed and issued the IAIA Strategic Environmental Assessment Performance Criteria • Made various professional submissions to the secretariat under the Convention on Biodiversity – Espoo Convention, WSSD Prep. Com. • Draft Policy Briefing for the World Summit

IAIA’s Contribution to 6th COP to CBD • “ Requests the Executive Secretary ……..to prepare, in collaboration with relevant organizations, in particular the International Association for Impact Assessment, proposals for further development and refinement of guidelines…” Draft Decisions adopted by the 6th COP to CBD, The Hague, 7-19 April 2002.
