  1. How can one play Golf well in just three months?

  2. So, you’ve got 3 months to prepare for a meeting on the golf course. The only problem is, you have played once in the last 20 years and that was 20 years ago. Being able to play golf well is the ability to manage your game and present yourself with class around a golf course. Here are 4 things you can do to hone your game of golf in 3 months…. **Disclaimer – The absolute best thing you can do to improve in 3 months is to seek out a PGA Professional for guidance and instruction. If you need help finding instruction please reach out to us. Practice your Short Game – One of the best things you can do to play well in three months is to chip and putt as often as possible. A 300 yard drive counts the same as a 3 inch putt. Spend 30 minutes a few times per week working on your short game and you are guaranteed to impress your group around the greens. Over achievers can spend another 30 mins on the carpet at home. Putting on carpet is a great way to improve a ‘long’ putting stroke which could come in handy.

  3. 150 Yard Club – You need a club that travels 150 yards. You need to be able to hit this club generally straight. It can be a 9 iron, 7 iron, 5 iron or rescue club. Figure out which club this is for you and make it your friend. Developing this club will allow you to gage distance for the rest of your clubs. When playing good golf, we like to be ‘pin high’ which means left and right of the pin. You will score better if you can get left or right of the pin as opposed to long or short of the pin.

  4. Off the Tee – You do not have to hit a driver. You do not have to hit a driver. Did I say that twice? You do not have to hit a driver. However, you do need confidence in a club you can tee off with. This could be 4 iron, rescue club, fairway metals, driving irons or a Driver. Any of these will work. If the Driver misses 9/10 times….it’s not the club for your meeting in 3 months. Don’t have any shame in teeing off with a club not named driver. Get to the driving range and figure out which club this is for you.

  5. Etiquette – An often-overlooked aspect of playing golf well is etiquette for the game. Dress properly, be early, have plenty of inventory: balls, tees, towels, cash etc. Make sure you understand the rules of the game you are playing that day. Don’t move when players are addressing their ball. Don’t make any noise when players are addressing their ball. Try to make as little noise as possible. Fill your divots and fix your ball marks. Offer to pull and tend the pin. Congratulate good shots and celebrate amazing ones. Stay silent on poor shots and awful ones. Pay attention to your own ball (it is your responsibility). Be near your ball and ready to hit as best you can. Mind your pace of play….do not rush but do not be the ‘slow’ player. Be humble in losing and winning. Take your hat off and shake hands when your group completes the final hole. If you win any money, offer to buy your playing partners a round.
