  1. How to Help Your Child Succeed: • Make sure they are using their agenda. • Ask to see their completed homework assignments. • Have students organize their backpacks at the end of the week. • Look through Science Binder (and notebooks for other classes) with them on a regular basis. • Look for these qualities in their work: organization, effort, elaboration, completeness, critical thinking, creativity.

  2. Causes for Concern: • A chaotic binder (or backpack) with papers sticking out, rumpled or ripped papers, or papers crammed in the front pocket (or bottom of bag) rather than in the rings. • Unfinished assignments; assignments with simplistic answers; assignments that lack evidence of creativity, enthusiasm, or pride in his/her own work. • Regularly needing more that 30 minutes to complete science homework.

  3. Obtaining & Completing Work From Home Due to an Absence or Forgetfulness  Due to absence: Work will be collected for your child in a Study Buddy folder. Complete work and return within 2 days of absence to receive full credit. Work returned after 2 days will only receive half credit. Due to forgetfulness: Work can be made up for half credit if done thoroughly and accurately. Ask Ms. Tinder after class or after school for make-up work.

  4. eSembler : Questions About Grades • Both parents and students can (and should) monitor grades on eSembler. • Remember that eSembler is an active grade book. • It is not an official report card; it changes daily as new grades are entered. • It is not a personal judgment regarding your child’s abilities. • Grades are earned, not given. • Please ask your student about missing assignments (M), incomplete assignments (I), and/or low grades before you contact me.

  5. In closing… • I care deeply about all of my students (your children). • I want the best for them and from them!

  6. How to Contact Ms. Tinder: Email: ctinder@scjh.org (preferred) Phone: 772-388-8838
