  1. American Geophysical Union Fall Meeting 2011, December 6, 2011 Authoritative Data Records: Implications Beyond the Science Donna J. Scott, Amanda Leon, Kara Gergely nsidc@nsidc.org NASA Earth Science Data Records NSIDC Data Management NOAA Climate Data Records A unified and coherent set of observations of a given parameter of the Earth system, which is optimized to meet specific requirements in addressing science questions. A time series of measurements of sufficient length, consistency, and continuity to determine climate variability and change (NRC, 2004) NSIDC has a role in the development of ESDRs and CDRs for both agencies, providing expert programming support, data management guidance and distribution through NSIDC’s data catalog. This presentation explores the challenges in serving similar data sets while maintaining unique agency requirements.
