  2. Why a syllabi system? • Syllabi continue to be used to rate programs. • The recent NCTQ Records Request highlighted the need for: 1. Syllabi consistency across course sections 2. A centralized syllabi collection system in the College of Education. College of Education Office of Assessment & Accreditation

Syllabi are required for the 2014 NCATE review and were an area of concern in the 2006 NCATE visit. • Background: In Spring 2011, members of the COE Assessment and Accreditation Committee developed a template for an online syllabi development system. • Pilot implementation will begin in Spring 2012. The following courses are targeted to utilize the COE Syllabi System in Spring 2012: • BITE: 2000, 2112, 2212 • C&I: Elem 4550, ELEM 2123, ELEM 6550 and possible SPED courses • HACE: COAD 5370, COAD 6405, COAD 6407 • MSITE: MATE 2123-001, MATE 3167-620, MATE 6400-601,EDTC 4001 College of Education Office of Assessment & Accreditation

  5. 1) Log into the COE Faculty Directory and find the syllabi edit option. (Slides 2-7) • 2) Import an Existing Syllabus (Slides 9-13) • 3) Create a New Syllabus (Slides 14-17) • 4) Edit an Existing Syllabus (Slides 18-23) This guide will direct you in how to: College of Education Office of Assessment & Accreditation

  7. In our example, we are using Dr. Diana Lys’ listing. Step 2: Locate the Faculty & Staff Directory and Your Name College of Education Office of Assessment & Accreditation

  8. This is the screen that should pop up upon clicking your name. Step 3: Click Update (circled in red here) to access your log-in screen. College of Education Office of Assessment & Accreditation

  10. Step 5: Select Edit Syllabi College of Education Office of Assessment & Accreditation

You now have three options at this point… • Option 1: Import an Existing Syllabus • Option 2: Create a New Syllabus (skip to slide 14) • Option 3: Edit an Existing Syllabus (skip to slide 18) The next set of slides walk you through these options.   13. Your screen should look like this upon logging in and choosing “Edit Syllabi” Select “Import From Existing Syllabi” College of Education Office of Assessment & Accreditation

  14. This is how your screen should appear. Click on a syllabus to import. For this example, we are choosing Gregg Lowe’s ADED 6001 Sec. 001 syllabus. College of Education Office of Assessment & Accreditation

  15. Note: Remember to click Update Syllabus to save changes! The imported syllabus will appear. Now, you can edit necessary information & click “Update Syllabus” to save the changes. College of Education Office of Assessment & Accreditation

Note: If you do not wish to publish the syllabus, scroll down the page and either choose “Edit Syllabus” or “Return to Previous Page” In order for the imported syllabus to be published under your syllabi, you must click “Publish” when this screen appears.   18. Your screen should look like this upon logging in and choosing “Edit Syllabi” College of Education Office of Assessment & Accreditation

  19. To create a new syllabus: Select your course number: This will access a list of approved course objectives and insert it into your syllabi. College of Education Office of Assessment & Accreditation

  20. Remember:Click “Add Syllabus” upon completion! Simply remain on this page and fill in the blank & necessary areas in the form. College of Education Office of Assessment & Accreditation

  21. Edit an existing syllabus Option 3: College of Education Office of Assessment & Accreditation

  22. We are going to select ELEM 4550 for our example. First, locate the “Existing Syllabi” section, on the left side of your screen; & select the course you are editing. College of Education Office of Assessment & Accreditation

  23. The course syllabus will appear upon selecting your existing syllabus. College of Education Office of Assessment & Accreditation

  24. Click the option to Edit Syllabus Now, scroll down to the end of the page… College of Education Office of Assessment & Accreditation

  25. Note: Remember to click Update Syllabus to save changes! Your existing syllabus will appear. Now, you can edit necessary information. College of Education Office of Assessment & Accreditation

  26. Continue to edit the same syllabus. OR Return to the previous screen and choose another course syllabus to edit, or exit your account You will then be taken back to your syllabus and given two options: College of Education Office of Assessment & Accreditation
