  1. Difference Between Interior & Exterior Paints

  2. Both the interior and exterior paints look similar, however, their components are quite different. The 4 main components of paint are pigments, resins, additives and solvents.

  3. The pigment is the real shade of the paint while the resin is a natural substance that clings it to the surface. Resins can be acrylic, epoxy or silicone.

  4. The additives are chemical substances that protect the surface against UV rays, weather conditions, fungal growth, mildew etc. Moreover, additives make the paint simple to apply and simple to clean.

  5. Solvents are components that make the paints wet. The 2 types of solvents include water and mineral spirits. In water-based paints, as the name suggests the solvent is water. Whereas in oil-based paints, the solvent is mineral spirit.

  6. QUANTITY OF PIGMENTS TYPES OF RESINS With regards to pigments, exterior paints contain more shades than interior paints. Rigid resins are utilized in interior paints while flexible ones are utilized in exterior paints.

  7. DIFFERENT ADDITIVES CLEANLINESS When it comes to additives, exterior paints contain more pesticide and fungicide, as they require protection from UV rays. However, interior paints do not contain any additives. When it comes to cleanliness, interior paints are easy to clean and wash, whereas exterior paints are difficult to clean

  8. DIFFERENT ADDITIVES OUTGASSING When it comes to additives, exterior paints contain more pesticide and fungicide, as they require protection from UV rays. However, interior paints do not contain any additives. The release of gas following the application of paint is termed outgassing. Best interior paints are perfect for indoors as they don’t cause outgassing. However, exterior paints cause outgassing that lasts up to 48 hours or more depending on the quality of the paint.

  9. Conclusion We hope you have now understood the difference between exterior and interior wall paints. So always invest in the best exterior paints and interior paints for long-lasting results.
