National Parks • 1117 National Parks in Queensland • Whilst the images in this presentation showcase our iconic and remote parks, most of Queensland’s parks are managed within a urban and peri urban setting • Both planned and legacy parks Reason for national parks in Australia • National parks exist because they have values that we want to protect and conserve over time • They provide environmental, economic and social benefits • We have international obligations to establish and manage them

  8. National Park Governance Challenges Prioritise park management – given limited resources. Understanding what to protect – Key Values. Ensuring planning is converted to on-ground actions. Know the resources we invest are delivering desired outcomes – Level of Service & Health Checks. Evidence based decision making – Park Review Adapt management in response to improved understanding. Demonstrate we are making best use of public resources.
