President BushState of the Union Address

  • “We will increasingly focus our efforts on helping prepare more capable Iraqi security forces, forces with skilled officers, and an effective command structure. As those forces become more self-reliant and take on greater security responsibilities, America and its coalition partners will increasingly be in a supporting role.”

Luke 24 50 53 l.jpg
Luke 24:50-53

  • When he had led them out to the vicinity of Bethany, he lifted up his hands and blessed them. While he was blessing them, he left them and was taken up into heaven. Then they worshiped him and returned to Jerusalem with great joy. And they stayed continually at the temple, praising God.

Acts 1 3 l.jpg
Acts 1:3

  • After his suffering, he showed himself to these men and gave many convincing proofs that he was alive. He appeared to them over a period of forty days and spoke about the kingdom of God.

1 Corinthians 15:5-6

  • …and that he appeared to Peter, and then to the Twelve. After that, he appeared to more than five hundred of the brothers at the same time, most of whom are still living, though some have fallen asleep.

Acts 1 4 5 l.jpg
Acts 1:4-5

  • On one occasion, while he was eating with them, he gave them this command: “Do not leave Jerusalem, but wait for the gift my Father promised, which you have heard me speak about. For John baptized with water, but in a few days you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit.”

  • We’re so reluctant to do what they did. Who has time to wait? We groan at such a thought. But waiting doesn’t mean inactivity - rather inHIMactivity. Waiting means watching for him. If you are waiting on a bus, you are watching for the bus. If you are waiting on God, you are watching for God, searching for God, hoping in God.

  • Great promises come to those who do. “But those who wait on the Lord will find new strength. They will fly high on wings like eagles. They will run and not grow weary. They will walk and not faint.”

  • To those who struggle, God says, “Wait on me.”

Acts 1 6 9 l.jpg
Acts 1:6-9

  • So when they met together, they asked him, “Lord, are you at this time going to restore the kingdom to Israel?”

  • He said to them: “It is not for you to know the times or dates the Father has set by his own authority. But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.”

  • After he said this, he was taken up before their very eyes, and a cloud hid him from their sight.

  • “Making them disciples by baptism in the three-fold name, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.”

  • After the Lord Jesus had spoken to them, he was taken up into heaven and he sat at the right hand of God.

  • Beyond all question, the mystery of godliness is great:

  • He appeared in a body,

  • was vindicated by the Spirit,

  • was seen by angels,

  • was preached among the nations,

  • was believed on in the world,

  • was taken up in glory.

  • They were looking intently up into the sky as he was going, when suddenly two men dressed in white stood beside them. “Men of Galilee,” they said, “why do you stand here looking into the sky? This same Jesus, who has been taken from you into heaven, will come back in the same way you have seen him go into heaven.”

  • I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Now there is in store for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to me on that day—and not only to me, but also to all who have longed for his appearing.

  • Friends will be there

  • I have loved long ago;

  • Joy like a river

  • around me will flow;

  • Yet, just a smile

  • from my Savior I know,

  • Will through the ages

  • be glory for me.

  • “The body of the believer had become the temple of the living God. And the human heart had become the home for Jesus Christ. This wasn’t just some holy explosion of power and then the Spirit disappeared. He remains with the believer for the long haul sustaining you on a daily basis as you call upon Him through this race called life.”

  • In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groans that words cannot express. And he who searches our hearts knows the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for the saints in accordance with God’s will.
