  1. Eschatology and Ecclesiology The Resurrections & The Divine Judgments And inasmuch as it is appointed for men to die once and after this comes judgment...(Heb 9:27a)

  2. The Progressive Revelation of the Doctrine of Resurrection • Isaiah 26:19: Your dead will live; Their corpses will rise. You who lie in the dust, awake and shout for joy, For your dew is as the dew of the dawn, And the earth will give birth to the departed spirits. • Daniel 12:1-2: "Now at that time Michael, the great prince who stands guard over the sons of your people, will arise. And there will be a time of distress such as never occurred since there was a nation until that time; and at that time your people, everyone who is found written in the book, will be rescued. And many of those who sleep in the dust of the ground will awake, these to everlasting life, but the others to disgrace and everlasting contempt.” • John 5:28-29: "Do not marvel at this; for an hour is coming, in which all who are in the tombs shall hear His voice, and shall come forth; those who did the good deeds to a resurrection of life, those who committed the evil deeds to a resurrection of judgment.” • 1 Corinthians 15:20: But now Christ has been raised from the dead, the first fruits of those who are asleep.

  3. The Order of the Resurrections1 Cor 15:23 All Remaining Dead Rev 20:12 Two Witnesses, Tribulation & OT Saints Rev 11:11-12; 20:4; Dan 12:1-2 Church Saints Christ, the first fruits New Heavens & Earth The Tribulation Millennial Kingdom Church Age

  4. The Resurrection Body of the Saints • Phil 3:21: who will transform the body of our humble state into conformity with the body of His glory, by the exertion of the power that He has even to subject all things to Himself. • 1 Corinthians 15:42-44: So also is the resurrection of the dead. It is sown a perishable body, it is raised an imperishable body; it is sown in dishonor, it is raised in glory; it is sown in weakness, it is raised in power; it is sown a natural body, it is raised a spiritual body. If there is a natural body, there is also a spiritual body.

  7. The Nature of Judgment • The Judge is Jesus Christ (John 5:22). • Christ’s judgment will be according to works (Rom 2:6-11). • Unlike human judges, He will judge with all the facts, including human motives (Rom 2:16). • Church saints will also participate in exercising judgment (1 Cor 6:2-3; Rev 20:4).

  8. The General Judgment View Christ’s 2nd Coming All Judgments Church Age = Tribulation + Millennium Eternal State 2nd Resurrection (physical) 1st Resurrection (spiritual)

  9. The Judgment Seat of Christ(2 Cor 5:10) • The Place: The “Bema” Seat of Christ • a raised platform mounted by steps and sometimes furnished with a seat, used by officials in addressing an assembly or making pronouncements. • The Subjects: Church saints, for “We must all appear” • The Time: during the tribulation • The Purpose: evaluation and recompense for “deeds done in the body.” • While salvation is secure, faithfulness will determine reward and position in the kingdom (Matt 25:14-30).

  10. Judgment on Israel during the Tribulation • Ezek 20:33-38: "As I live," declares the Lord God, "surely with a mighty hand and with an outstretched arm and with wrath poured out, I shall be king over you. And I shall bring you out from the peoples and gather you from the lands where you are scattered, with a mighty hand and with an outstretched arm and with wrath poured out; and I shall bring you into the wilderness of the peoples, and there I shall enter into judgment with you face to face. As I entered into judgment with your fathers in the wilderness of the land of Egypt, so I will enter into judgment with you," declares the Lord God. "And I shall make you pass under the rod, and I shall bring you into the bond of the covenant; and I shall purge from you the rebels and those who transgress against Me; I shall bring them out of the land where they sojourn, but they will not enter the land of Israel. Thus you will know that I am the LORD” (cf. Zech 13:8-9).

  11. Judgment of the Nations • During the Tribulation • Ezek 30:3: "For the day is near, Even the day of the LORD is near; It will be a day of clouds, A time of doom for the nations.” • Obad 1:15: "For the day of the LORD draws near on all the nations. As you have done, it will be done to you. Your dealings will return on your own head.” • After the Tribulation • Joel 3:1-2: "For behold, in those days and at that time, When I restore the fortunes of Judah and Jerusalem, I will gather all the nations, And bring them down to the valley of Jehoshaphat. Then I will enter into judgment with them there On behalf of My people and My inheritance, Israel, Whom they have scattered among the nations; And they have divided up My land” (cf. Matt 25:31-46). • Psalm 82:8; 96:10, 13; 98:9.

  12. Judgment of Satan and Fallen Angels • Cast out of heaven halfway through the Day of the Lord • Rev 12:7-9: And there was war in heaven, Michael and his angels waging war with the dragon. And the dragon and his angels waged war, and they were not strong enough, and there was no longer a place found for them in heaven. And the great dragon was thrown down, the serpent of old who is called the devil and Satan, who deceives the whole world; he was thrown down to the earth, and his angels were thrown down with him. • Satan bound and imprisoned in the abyss at beginning of Millennium • Rev 20:1-3: And I saw an angel coming down from heaven, having the key of the abyss and a great chain in his hand. And he laid hold of the dragon, the serpent of old, who is the devil and Satan, and bound him for a thousand years, and threw him into the abyss, and shut it and sealed it over him, so that he should not deceive the nations any longer, until the thousand years were completed; after these things he must be released for a short time. • After his release and final rebellion, cast into the lake of fire • Rev 20:10 And the devil who deceived them was thrown into the lake of fire and brimstone, where the beast and the false prophet are also; and they will be tormented day and night forever and ever (cf. Matt 25:41).

  13. The Great White Throne Judgment • Rev 20:11-15: And I saw a great white throne and Him who sat upon it, from whose presence earth and heaven fled away, and no place was found for them. And I saw the dead, the great and the small, standing before the throne, and books were opened; and another book was opened, which is the book of life; and the dead were judged from the things which were written in the books, according to their deeds. And the sea gave up the dead which were in it, and death and Hades gave up the dead which were in them; and they were judged, every one of them according to their deeds. And death and Hades were thrown into the lake of fire. This is the second death, the lake of fire. And if anyone's name was not found written in the book of life, he was thrown into the lake of fire. • After final rebellion at end of millennium, all unsaved are dead. • All unsaved dead are raised and stand before Great White Throne. • They are judged on the basis of works which determine their eternal punishment. • Hades and death cast into lake of fire.

  14. Judgments of Heaven and Earth • Rev 21:1 And I saw a new heaven and a new earth; for the first heaven and the first earth passed away, and there is no longer any sea. • 2 Peter 3:10: But the day of the Lord will come like a thief, in which the heavens will pass away with a roar and the elements will be destroyed with intense heat, and the earth and its works will be burned up. • Necessary because of the remaining elements of the curse on the universe; new heavens and earth, free from the curse, will replace them.
