Joints and Ligaments • A joint is the site where 2 or more bones of the skeleton are attached to each other. • Joints can also be called cartilage. • Proteins known as collagen make up tissue in most ligaments. • There are 7 types of joints and about 360 in the human body. • Without joints your bones would not be connected and you would be a pile of organs. • They make your knees, elbows and more bendable.

  4. What bones are made of? • Bones are made of : • Yellow & Red bone marrow • Calcium • Fat • Minerals • spongy & hard bone • Sugar

  5. Why are bones important? • Bones: • Protect the body’s vital organs • Provide the basic framework • Provide necessary minerals • Storing materials for the body

  6. Major Bones and number of bones • 20 major bones • Cranium, mandible, clavicle, sternum, humorous, ribcage, vertebrae, pelvis, ulna, carpals, radius, metacarpals , phalanges, femur, patella, fibula, tarsal, tibia, metatarsal • There are 206 bones in the body

  7. Fun Facts & Diseases • Fun Facts: • Your feet have 52 bones, 35 joints and 100 ligaments. • Babies are born with more bones than adults and older children have.
