  28. 5 Reasons to Re-think the “Safety” of Marijuana-Especially for Adolescents Marijuana users can develop Dependence – in other words, marijuana can be addictive • Addiction: compulsive engagement in rewarding stimuli, despite adverse consequences • Greater likelihood of developing due to early onset of use • Primarily due to interference of developmental tasks of adolescence in the brain – “pruning”
